The Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology Act of 1985 (BCENT Act) was scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2026, but the Illinois General Assembly introduced a bill (SB 2495) to extend the BCENT to January 1, 2031. Having passed both the House and Senate, SB2495 is headed to the Governor for signature. Throughout the legislative session, IACS worked closely with interested stakeholders and IDFPR to make sure the rewrite maintained important protections for our schools, educators, and students.
